Xiaomi Mi Watch vs Amazfit Nexo: Which One Is The Best Xiaomi Smartwatch 2019?
A couple of days ago, the official sales of Xiaomi Mi Watch smartwatch have started. By the way, it is the first real smartwatch from Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer says that Xiaomi Mi Watch is a smartphone on the wrist. Using the new smartwatch, you can receive and make calls, download any apps and monitor your daily activity.
However, back in September 2019, another smartwatch from Xiaomi’s sub-brand – Amazfit Nexo – was presented. It also allows making calls, track physical activity and control music.
Xiaomi Mi Watch and Amazfit Nexo have many similar specifications, but also they have several important differences.

Xiaomi Mi Watch vs Amazfit Nexo: Design
As for appearance, Xiaomi Mi Watch and Amazfit Nexo are very easy to distinguish from each other.
Xiaomi Mi Watch has a rectangular dial, like Apple Watch. Amazfit Nexo comes with a round screen. Let’s talk more about display of each smartwatch.
The new Xiaomi Mi Watch comes in two versions with different materials of body and strap. A more expensive version is available in stainless steel case and metal strap. Both the case and the strap are made in silver. The smartwatch look premium in this version, and it fits perfectly for classic clothes.
The standard Xiaomi Mi Watch model is available in aluminum alloy case with fluororubber strap. The smartwatch in this version is available in black, blue, gray and white.
The fluororubber strap, or just silicone, is universal, so you can use Xiaomi Mi Watch for both sport and office clothes.
Amazfit Nexo comes in one version – ceramic case and polycarbonate strap. Amazfit Nexo has no color options. The watch is available only in black.
Amazfit smartwatch is only 5 grams heavier than Xiaomi Mi Watch. We don’t think you will notice the big difference.
The weight of Xiaomi Mi Watch is only 44 grams, while Amazfit Nexo is 49 grams.
On the right side of Xiaomi Mi Watch there is a large wheel – it is a crown. It allows to navigate through the menu.
Under the crown you can see a multifunctional physical button and microphone.
On the left side is a speaker and a cooling hole.
On the back panel, as usual, there is heart rate sensor and charging contacts.
We think that Xiaomi Mi Watch has one significant drawback – the thickness. The watch is too thick, which makes it look bulky and uncomfortable.
As for Amazfit Nexo, it looks more minimalistic. On the right side of the smartwatch is one round control button and microphone.
On the back there is a heart rate sensor and contacts for charging the watch.
By the way, both watches have protection against water. Xiaomi Mi Watch is protected by 5ATM standard, while Amazfit Nexo is IP68. These watches can be immersed in water, but we would not recommend swimming with them, especially in the sea or ocean.
We don’t know which design you like more – Xiaomi Mi Watch or Amazfit Nexo. It’s hard for us to choose. To be honest, we prefer a square dial, like Xiaomi Mi Watch, but we do not like the thickness of the new smartwatch.
Xiaomi Mi Watch vs Amazfit Nexo: Display
Now let’s compare the displays of Xiaomi smartwatches.
Xiaomi Mi Watch has 1.78-inch touch screen. This is AMOLED panel with resolution of 368 x 448 pixels. The display is square and it has excellent color reproduction and brightness. It is protected by Corning Gorilla 3 glass.
By the way, the more expensive model has sapphire crystal coating on display. The standard model has a tempered glass on the screen.
Amazfit Nexo received a round AMOLED display. Its size is smaller than Xiaomi Mi Watch – 1.3-inches, but the resolution is higher – 454 x 454 pixels.
The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla 3 glass and covered with tempered glass.
Xiaomi Mi Watch vs Amazfit Nexo: Specifications
In terms of specs, Xiaomi Mi Watch and Amazfit Nexo have some notable differences.
Firstly, both of these watches run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The new Xiaomi watch is equipped with Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, while Amazfit Nexo has Snapdragon Wear 2500.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 processor is newer and more powerful, so it offers better performance and energy efficiency.
Xiaomi Mi Watch has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Amazfit Nexo comes with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory.
Secondly, the new Xiaomi Mi Watch runs on MIUI For Watch operating system. The new OS allows you to install your favorite apps, including Facebook, YouTube, Telegram, etc.
Amazfit Nexo runs on Amazfit OS without the ability to install third-party applications.
Thirdly, the new Xiaomi watch is equipped with three sensors for tracking health: a sensor for measuring heart rate, a sensor for monitoring sleep, and a sensor for measuring pressure. Amazfit only monitors heart rate and sleep.
We do not know how important the pressure measurement sensor is for you, and is it really a significant drawback.

Using Xiaomi Mi Watch and Amazfit Nexo, you can make and receive calls. Both smartwatches support eSIM. This is a very convenient feature, since you do not need to carry a smartphone with you all the times.
For example, during a workout, you can answer a call or message using a smartwatch.
Both watches track steps, calories, distance traveled, and they also support 10 sports modes. The smartwatches have timer, alarm clock, calendar, GPS + GLONASS.
Xiaomi Mi Watch and Amazfit Nexo support Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and XiaoAI voice assistant.
Xiaomi Mi Watch vs Amazfit Nexo: Battery
The new Xiaomi Mi Watch is equipped with 570mAh battery. The manufacturer says that the new smartwatch lasts up to 36 hours on a single charge.
Amazfit Nexo’s battery capacity is slightly less – 420mAh. On a single charge, the smartwatch lasts up to 28 hours.
It takes about 2 hours to fully charge both watches.
Xiaomi Mi Watch vs Amazfit Nexo: Price and buy
The last and perhaps the most important category when choosing a smartwatch is price. Amazfit Nexo is already available for sale, and you can buy them for $219.
The new Xiaomi Mi Watch is now only available in standard version with a fluororubber strap. Its price is $259. A version with a metal strap will cost more.
Both Xiaomi Mi Watch and Amazfit Nexo are stylish and multi-functional smartwatches. However, paying only $40 more for Xiaomi Mi Watch, you get smartwatch with MIUI For Watch operating system, better performance and larger battery. We think the choice is obvious!
