UMIDIGI A5 Pro First REVIEW: Wide-Angle Camera In Budget Phone!

At the end of April 2019, the Chinese company UMIDIGI presented its new budget smartphone called A5 Pro. The new mobile device, like several previous smartphones from UMIDIGI, has a waterdrop notch above the display and triple rear camera on the back.

The main updates of UMIDIGI A5 Pro are glass back panel and triple camera with wide-angle lens.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro: Design

As we already said, A5 Pro looks similar to the latest smartphones from UMIDIGI, for example, UMIDIGI F1 or UMIDIGI Power. All these smartphones have the same size – 156 x 75.9 x 8.2 mm and weight 203 grams. The main update in UMIDIGI A5 Pro is glass back panel.

The back panel is also protected from scratches and damage with a curved 2.5D glass. There is triple main camera on the back, which is placed vertically. Also, the phone has a large flashlight under the camera. The fingerprint reader is located in the center of back panel.

The entire front panel is occupied by 6.3-inch display. It is also protected by 2.5D glass and is made by In-cell LTPS technology. The manufacturer says that the phone has 92.7% of screen to body ratio. The screen resolution is FHD+, 2280 x 1080 pixels.

By the way, UMIDIGI F1 smartphone has exactly the same display.

There is a small waterdrop notch and earpiece above the display. The smartphone doesn’t have physical control buttons under the display, but the bottom bezel is bigger than the side ones. Nevertheless, UMIDIGI A5 Pro looks almost bezel-less.

As usual, there is volume rocker and power button on the side.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro has one nice feature. In addition to the standard slot for dual SIM, the smartphone offers a special slot for microSD memory card. Unlike most other smartphones, you can use dual SIM and microSD in UMIDIGI A5 Pro at the same time.

There is microUSB port for charging, 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones, a speaker and a microphone on the bottom. We don’t understand why the Chinese manufacturer refused USB Type-C, which was used in previous UMIDIGI smartphones.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro comes in two color options: cosmic gray and gradient blue. Both of them look very beautiful.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro: Performance

As for the hardware, UMIDIGI A5 Pro offers good performance. The new smartphone is equipped with octa core processor Helio P23. It scores about 90,000 points in AnTuTu benchmark.

The smartphone allows you to play even heavy games, but at low and medium graphics settings. This is a good result for an entry level processor.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro comes in only one memory configuration – 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. If this is not enough for you, then, as we already said, you can use a special slot for microSD card up to 256 GB.

The smartphone runs on the latest version of Google’s operating system – Android 9.0 Pie. It supports all Google apps and services, as well as multi language.

As for wireless networks, there are Bluetooth 4.2, Bluetooth HID and IEEE802.11a/b/g/n. Unfortunately, UMIDIGI A5 Pro does not have NFC.

For the battery life, the smartphone has a battery capacity of 4150mAh. UMIDIGI A5 Pro uses an energy-efficient entry-level processor, so the single charge should be enough for 2 days of battery life. As you understand, microUSB port provides only 10W charging.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro: Camera

Perhaps the main feature of new UMIDIGI A5 Pro is the main camera. The rear camera consists of three sensors. Sony IMX398 main sensor has 16MP resolution and f/1.8 aperture. The second sensor is 8-megapixel wide-angle, which provides a viewing angle of 120 degrees. The 5MP third sensor is used for taking photos with depth effects.

Usually, a triple camera and a wide-angle lens are found in flagship smartphones, but now they are available in a budget device.

The front camera will delight selfie lovers. There is only one sensor on the front panel, but it has resolution of 16 megapixels and f/2.0 aperture.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro: Price and buy

We should wait for the start of sales of UMIDIGI A5 Pro about one week. You can buy the phone on May 21, 2019. Now the smartphone is available for pre-order for $146, but we are sure that the price will drop.

UMIDIGI A5 Pro is a smartphone with modern design, glass back panel, special slot for memory card, large battery and triple camera with wide-angle lens. It has too many features for $150, do you agree?
