Roborock S5 Max First REVIEW: Best Robot Vacuum Cleaner 2019 for Mopping!
Roborock is one of the most famous and popular manufacturers of robot vacuum cleaners. The Chinese company regularly releases new models of their smart vacuum cleaners with improved specifications and affordable prices.
Previously, we wrote about Xiaomi Roborock T6 and Roborock Sweep T6. A couple of days ago, a new robot vacuum cleaner called Roborock S5 Max came on sale.
The new Roborock S5 Max offers both dry and wet cleaning. The robot vacuum cleaner has an enlarged water tank with a capacity of 290 ml, adjustable water supply, 14 different sensors, as well as cleaning time on single charge up to 180 minutes.
Today we’ll take a first look at Roborock S5 Max and find out what improvements the new robot vacuum cleaner has received.

Roborock S5 Max: Design
The appearance of Roborock S5 Max has not changed much. This is not surprising, because this design is very comfortable and efficient.
The new robot vacuum cleaner has a circle shape with a small turret on the top panel. The tower is equipped with sensors to scan the room.
The robot vacuum cleaner is available in two colors: gray and white. The white version has several orange parts on the body.
Despite longer battery life and larger water tank, the size of Roborock S5 Max has remained almost unchanged. This is very good, because the compact size allows the robot vacuum cleaner to clean under the table, bed and sofa.
The robot’s dimensions are 35.30 x 35.00 x 9.65 cm. As before, the weight is 3.5 kg.
The top panel of the robotic vacuum cleaner is divided into two parts. One of them hides a container for dry waste collection. Its volume is 460 ml. To remove the container, you just need to press on the top panel and the lid will open.
The second part of the top panel features a small sensor tower, a Roborock logo and two physical buttons.
One of the buttons is designed to turn on/off the robot vacuum cleaner, while the second one – returns the vacuum cleaner to the charging base. The rest of the functions are performed via the app on smartphone.
On the bottom panel there is a large main brush for garbage collection and one side brush with silicone bristles. By the way, the main brush is removable, so it’s easy to clean, for example, from wool or hair.
There are also two large side wheels, one small center wheel for turning and magnetic connectors for charging the vacuum cleaner on the bottom.
Next to the main brush, there’s a pretty large water tank. As we said before, its volume has more than doubled compared to the previous models – 290 ml. It is transparent, so you can see how much water is left in it. The tank is easy to remove.
You also get a stand that holds the wet cleaning cloth in place. This stand is attached to the water tank.
The side panels, as usual, have sensors on them to prevent impacts and collisions with furniture or walls.
We love how the new Roborock S5 Max looks, especially in gray color. It is stylish, compact and easy to use.
Roborock S5 Max: Specifications
Now let’s talk about specifications of Roborock S5 Max.
As we wrote earlier, the new robot vacuum cleaner from Xiaomi has dry and wet cleaning functions. Luckily, the volume of containers has increased, so the new robot vacuum cleaner can clean even more territory.
The battery life has also increased. The battery capacity is 5200mAh. Roborock S5 Max can work up to 180 minutes on one charge. Excellent result! In three hours, the vacuum cleaner can clean up a room of up to 200 square meters.
It takes about 6 hours to fully charge the robot vacuum cleaner. Yes, that’s a lot, but unlikely you will use the vacuum cleaner more than twice a day.
The suction power is quite high – 2000 Pa. The vacuum cleaner perfectly collects any kind of garbage, including hair and wool. Thanks to the removable central brush, the vacuum cleaner is easy to clean.
The noise level can reach 60 dB at maximum power. Of course, Roborock S5 Max isn’t silent, but behind closed doors you can hardly hear it.
To scan rooms and create a virtual card Roborock S5 Max uses high-precision laser LDS, which scans the room at 300 revolutions per minute.
Roborock S5 Max: Functions
The robot vacuum cleaner automatically calculates the most efficient route for cleaning and avoiding obstacles. Roborock S5 Max easily crosses thresholds and carpets up to 2 cm high.
To use all the functions of Roborock S5 Max, you need to install Roborock app on your smartphone. Once the robot is synchronized with smartphone, you can set a cleaning schedule, change from wet to dry and vice versa, see a room map, and set other parameters.
The app is really handy, especially if you’re not at home. You can start cleaning remotely, select a room to clean, or choose a place where the robot vacuum cleaner shouldn’t go.

Another feature of Roborock S5 Max is adjustable water supply during wet cleaning. In the previous model, water was regulated through the water tank, while in the new Roborock S5 Max – through the mobile app. We think it’s very convenient because you decide for yourself which part of the room to use more water in.
By the way, in the application you also select areas where the robot vacuum cleaner cannot be used with water. This feature is useful for those who have carpets in the house.
Of course, the robot vacuum cleaner has the function of returning to the charging base, virtual wall and automatic switching to a powerful mode while cleaning carpets.
