Official: Google is developing its own VR-headset and controller

On the opening day of the conference Google I / O 2016 developers, Google introduced a new platform for virtual reality Daydream. At the same time the company reported the development of a reference design of the VR-headset and the controller, which will be shared with Google partners.

After the presentation, many had the feeling that Google has given segment of virtual reality at the mercy of its partners. But it seems that this is not true. And recently the head of the VR-division Beyvor Google Clay (Clay Bavor) confirmed that in addition to the reference design company is developing its own virtual reality helmet, and a controller.

Unfortunately, Clay Beyvor did not specify any details about the upcoming new product. Therefore, we do not know whether it is a self-contained VR-headset or is paired with a smartphone. Both solutions have their strengths and weaknesses. And if the first option is distinguished by its independence from other gadgets, the VR-helmets in Gear VR style though and require a smartphone, but have a much lower cost.

However, the price of a stand-alone Google VR-headset can be reduced through the use of a weaker mobile processor. As a result, the new product may be less Vive and Rift, but will win these VR-helmets due to its lower price.
