LEMFO LEM 8 REVIEW: The Best Android Smartwatch from China 2018!

LEMFO LEM 8: Unboxing

The new smartwatch comes in a strict black box made of thick cardboard. On the front side you can see big LEMFO logo. The brand was created in 2014 by Founded Shenzhen Wayforward Electronic Co. The company itself has existed since 2008, so it is quite experienced Chinese manufacturer.

The package includes: smartwatch, a charging dock, USB cable for charging and synchronizing with a PC, a small screwdriver and a user manual.

LEMFO LEM 8: Design

The design of LEMFO LEM 8 smartwatch is very beautiful. However, as it often happens, the watch looks different on official images and in real life. But we still like the design. It is a mixture of classic and high-tech.

The device case is titanium. The weight of smartwatch is 80 grams, while the thickness is slightly less than 1 cm. There is a speaker on the left side. It is used for notifications, alarm clock, conversations and voice input.

On right side are power button, microphone and 2MP camera. The strap is made of artificial material. It is tight and resistant to wear.

The metal fastener is durable. I use the watch for a relatively short time, only a couple of weeks, so I can judge the durability of the strap only from the reviews of other users – they don’t complain about the quality of the case and the strap.

On the back of the lid is connector for charging through the charging dock, heart rate monitor and SIM card slot. The charging connector is magnetized to the charge dock. You just need to bring the watch close, and it will connect automatically. The charging is very convenient and allows you to easily set the watch on the dock even in the dark.

Under the cover you can find a slot for nano-SIM card. It will be useful if you plan to use LEMFO LEM 8 not only as an assistant to a smartphone, but also a completely independent device. The SIM card in smartwatch is necessary for communication and 4G Internet.

By the way, LEMFO LEM 8 has a protection by standard IP67. It allows using the watch in any weather, it is not afraid of the rain. Also, you don’t need to take it off when washing hands. From other side, you should not dive the watch under water.

LEMFO LEM 8: Display

The main feature of the smartwatch is screen. It is awesome! LEMFO LEM 9 has AMOLED panel with 400×400 pixels. It is good resolution for 1.39-inch diagonal. The detail is high, and the grain is not noticeable. The black color is just great. The dark screen wallpaper creates the feeling that only visible elements are highlighted. The picture does not fade and does not distort even at sharp angles. However, the white color at an acute angle leaves the blue-green hue.

In practice the image on the smartwatch looks like on a promotional photo.

The brightness is very high. The screen is well read not only indoors, but also outdoors. The display is really round, without an ugly black bar at the bottom of the screen.

LEMFO LEM 8: Functions

Let’s talk about main functions. The main screen is a clock. You can choose from many dials. Each of them is original in its own way. There are minimalist ones with only the arrows on the screen, and there are multifunctional and informative ones with detailed information about pedometer, heart rate, weather, date, charge level, etc. The dial can be changed in the settings screen.

If you want to see the time you need to press the button on the right side. You can also turn on the time display by gesture. Make a gesture as if you were looking at a regular watch and the screen automatically turns on for a few seconds.

If you make a swipe down from the main screen, you will be taken to the quick settings panel. Here you can adjust the display brightness, turn on Wi-Fi / Bluetooth, control the power saving mode, clear applications from RAM and see the weather if it is not displayed on the dial.

Swipe to the right from the main screen will open the notification screen. Here you will see all events, missed messages, notifications from apps, etc. In addition, if you missed a call, there will be a special icon on the main screen.

Swipe to the left from the main screen switches the main menu items. I will walk briefly on some of them. The first screen is for calls. It is used only if SIM card is used. You can talk using the smartwatch. Just like in a smartphone, there is a call log, manual dialing, phone book from your Google account, etc.

There is also a browser, calendar, camera, sound, display settings, and heart rate monitor. The heart rate sensor allows you to measure the pulse at any time. This can be useful for cardio, athletes and people who have health problems. The accuracy is good, with manual measurement the readings coincide with an accuracy of + – several beats per minute.

The measurement takes place using photoplethysmographic sensors. The backlight allows the device to evaluate the speed of blood flow, which is directly related to the frequency of the heartbeat. For accurate measurement, the optical sensor should be as close as possible to the wrist.

The next item is messages. The screen is small, but sensitive – to type a text message is real. Of curse, it is not so fast process, as on the big smartphone screen, but it is possible to type the message. In general, I’m typing text with my finger without any problems. The screen holds a lot of information, if the text does not fit – use the scrolling as on the phone.

The next function is sport modes, such as walking, running, ping-pong, football, etc. There is also a section – exercises. It can help in training. For example, you want to go jogging – choose the appropriate tab, set the distance you want to run or the calories you want to burn and press the start. The smartwatch will notify you with vibration and a sound signal when the goal will be achieved.

Swipe down leads to special functions. Here you can find a calorie counter, a pedometer and how many kilometers are passed. The main role here is assigned to the pedometer. You do not need to turn it on, because it automatically counts your steps. It can also show the distance traveled in km, calories burned and progress relative to a given goal in graphical form. For an accurate calculation in the settings you need to enter your parameters – height, weight, step length. You can set a goal when the watch will notify you of the successful completion of the task.

The smartwatch is connected with Android and iOS smartphones. It uses Bluetooth technology for sync with mobile device. After you connect the smartwatch to smartphone, you will receive calls, messages, notifications from messengers, social media.

Also, when an incoming call, the watch will vibrate and information about the caller will be displayed on the screen. However, you cannot take or reject a call. The app works great, the connection is not lost. Companion app allows not to miss an important call or notification from social media.

The best feature of LEMFO LEM 8 is Android 7.1. It provides  access to Google Play Store with all its applications.

Also we should note about music player. You can listen to music not only through built-in speaker, but also Bluetooth headphones. The sound is decent, just like budget smartphones. It is not surprising, because there LEMFO LEM 8 is powered by phone processor MT6739.

LEMFO LEM 8: Battery

So, LEMFO LEM 8 looks like a perfect smartwatch, but it has one big disadvantage – battery life. The built-in battery has a capacity of 580mAh.

The smartwatch works about 2-3 days with SIM card and Bluetooth connection. If you turn on the WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and use sports modes, then the battery life will be reduced significantly. So, you will need to put smartwatch on charging every night before going to bed. Then you will not have problems with battery during the day.
