Xiaomi produces a whole series of security IP cameras. Today we want to review a camera called MIJIA Aqara – one of the most beautiful cameras on the market. You can use this camera with other Aqara products and can easily be integrated into the home automation system manufactured by Xiaomi itself.

Xiaomi Mijia Aqara: Design

Camera Overview Xiaomi Mijia Aqara

Xiaomi Aquara Camera has a round design and a black and white optical part. The camera body is round, and on the back it is completely spherical. As already mentioned, the front side of the camera is round and fixed in two side supports, which allow you to adjust the angle.

The base can rotate along its axis: this allows you to attach it to one side, and then move as desired.

On the front panel, as well as in the camera sensor, there is a LED indicator, a microphone and infrared LEDs.

On the back there are holes for the speaker. These holes are placed in such a way as to seem almost part of the design. Obviously, the usefulness of the microphone is to be able to communicate with those who are in front of the camera.

There is also a micro USB port. This connector is located in a part that can impede possible movements of the camera (in fact, the cable should be removed and reconnected later, as soon as the camera is selected). On the left side of micro-USB port there is an slot for microSD and reset button.

The magnet makes it easy to place the camera on metal parts without drilling anything.

Xiaomi Mijia Aqara: Functions

The camera, in comparison with other IP cameras from Xiaomi, connects to smartphone very easy and quickly.

Camera Overview Xiaomi Mijia Aqara

Xiaomi Mijia Aqara works via Mi Home application, just like other Xiaomi home automation devices. At the moment this camera is compatible only with the Chinese server. In any case, I am convinced that the support of the server in Singapore occurs as soon as possible, given the strong expansion that the company goes beyond China.

As already mentioned, the camera integrates useful functions, such as night vision. Thanks to infrared LEDs, Xiaomi Mijia Aqara will be able to display clear images even in total darkness. It is very useful in those situations when the house will be left without people for several days.

Another useful feature is motion detection. Instead of having a continuous recording, the camera will start recording, when it detect any motion.

Xiaomi Mijia Aqara camera, unlike Dafang, does not have a built-in motor. It means that it doesn’t have 360 degree view. In any case, the viewing angle is 180 degrees, which is really huge viewing angle. Personally, I prefer cameras with a fixed view, but with a large viewing angle, and not with the ability to move. It happens very rarely to move the viewing angle in fact, and we tend to leave it then in this perspective.

Xiaomi Mijia Aqara: Mi Home App

Camera Overview Xiaomi Mijia Aqara

I bought this camera more for design purposes than for functions. Aware that Xiaomi Aqara series has good attention to detail and quality. The camera really confirmed my expectations.

The plastic is of good quality, and I did not notice any special squeaks. The overall dimensions are quite compact and allow you to safely place the camera anywhere in the house.

The application to use is Mi Home. This app from time to time receives more and more updates that bring improvements in both stability and compatibility with countries outside of China.

Camera Overview Xiaomi Mijia Aqara

The quality of streaming is 15 frames per second. More than a satisfactory resolution and frame rate suitable for this type of product.

Recall, for those who do not know that Full HD – recording resolution, in this case, 1920 × 1080, and fps – the number of frames that the camera can record per second (in movies, for example, it is about 25).

Conclusion

To be honest, I cannot find any differences between Xiaomi Mijia Aqara and other IP camera from Xiaomi, except design. I provides the same functions and control, as many other products from Chinese manufacturer. So, the main reason to buy Xiaomi Mijia Aqara is its design.
