Huawei Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max REVIEW: The Most Budget Phablets in 2018!
In early September, Huawei introduced two new smartphones called Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max. In general, Huawei came up with new strategy, and release very interesting mid-range and even budget devices, instead of flagships.
If we talk about Honor 8X and 8X Max, they are phablets with 7-inch screens. We already compared Honor 8X Max with Xiaomi Mi Max 3, and it is really hard to choose which one is better.
The main feature of Honor 8X and 8X Max are small notches above the screens. As you know, today most smartphones have quite large notches, for example, iPhone XS, Xiaomi Mi 8, Pocophone F1 and many others.
We like that Huawei decided to move away from this trend, and tries to make the notch as small as possible. So, let’s review Honor 8X and 8X Max, and find out its specifications and features.
Huawei Honor 8X and 8X Max: Design
First, let’s talk about Honor 8X. This is bezel-less smartphone with glass body and metal frame. It comes with large 6.5-inch IPS screen with Full HD+ resolution. The screen occupies about 90% of front panel. The smartphone has only small bezel at the bottom of the screen, missing bezels on three sides. There is small notch above the screen for the front camera. In general, design of Honor 8X does not differ much from Honor 8, although the cameras on the back have vertical position.
Honor 8X Max will receive a similar design to Honor 8X with only two differences: display diagonal of 7.12 inches and increased dimensions. Also, it has new color of light violet tones.
Despite the huge screens, the phones have thin bezels, so the dimensions of the new products are very modest. Honor 8X with a diagonal of 6.5 inches is little larger than Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, which comes with 5.99 inches screen. The difference in height is less than 2 mm, and the width is less than 1 mm. The thickness of Honor 8X is less than the competitor.

Huawei Honor 8X and 8X Max: Performance
The specifications are great, nothing to talk about! Thesmartphones have hardware, despite the cardinal difference in the processors.
Honor 8X received Kirin 710 processor, which has a powerful Maly-G51 MP4 graphics core and Cortex-A73 + Cortex-A53 cores. The performance of Kirin 710 is similar to Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. You can play any games on Honor 8X on high graphics settings. Also, the smartphone has 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of 128GB of internal storage. If this is not enough for you, there is slot for microSD memory cards up to 400GB.
Honor 8X Max is powered by Snapdragon 636 processor. Also there is more powerful version with Snapdragon 660 chipset. The first version has 4GB of RAM, while model on SD660 will have up to 6GB of RAM. They come with 64GB and 128GB of storage. The slot for microSD memory cards is also available.
The power of both smartphones are comparable. Although the Kirin 710 is quite a bit superior to Snapdragon 660 processor on the technical process – 12 nm against 14 nm. As you know, the technological process is associated with energy consumption, so the smaller it is, the better energy efficiency.
As the operating system, both smartphones run on Android 8.1 Oreo with Android 9.0 Pie guaranteed in future updates.
Huawei Honor 8X and 8X Max: Camera
There are significant differences in the cameras between these smartphones. Honor 8X has dual main camera with 20MP + 2MP sensors. Honor 8X Max comes with 16MP + 2MP rear camera. The front cameras differ even more: Honor 8X has 16MP, while Honor 8X Mas is equipped with only 8MP sensor.
We should say that Honor 8X Max received the same sensor as the budget phone Honor 7X, and it is very sad.
Both smartphones have Face Unlock function.
Huawei Honor 8X and 8X Max: Battery
The battery capacity of Honor 8X is 3750mAh, and the Max version has 5000mAh. It’s not bad at all, given the fast charging for both models. However, compared to Xiaomi Mi Max 3, which has 5500mAh, Honor 8X Max looks not so impressive.
Huawei Honor 8X and 8X Max: Sound
It is reported that Honor 8X Max has dual stereo speakers with support of Dolby Atmos sound. As for Honor 8X, we haven’t information about stereo speaker, but we hope that it will also get an advanced stereo system.

Huawei Honor 8X and 8X Max: Price
The smartphones were introduced on September 5, while their prices are very attracrive. Honor 8X Max with 4/64 GB will cost from $219. The version with 4/128 GB (SD636) is sold from $263. Honor 8X Max on Snapdragom 660 processor will go on sale in October.
As for Honor 8X, the model with 4/64GB costs from $204, while 6/64GB version – $234. If you are interested in 6/128GB version, you will be asked from $277.
Conclusion
The specifications and low prices make Huawei 8X and 8X Max very attractive. Honor 8X Max has only one competitor in category under $300 – it is Xiaomi Mi Max 3. New smartphones have premium glass design, good hardware, cameras and even long battery life. So, you should pay attention to Honor 8X and 8X Max.
