The era of smartphones with a big notches above the display is over. In 2019, the manufacturers use a waterdrop notch, a hole-punch display, or even a retractable front camera.
Cubot company decided to stand out and introduced a new smartphone with a waterdrop notch, but very unusual. The notch is located in the top right corner, instead of the center of the top bezel. Have you seen this before? We haven’t. The smartphone is called Cubot Max 2.
Also, new smartphone received a large 6.8-inch screen, 5000mAh battery and attractive price of $199.

In this article we will talk about specifications, design and cameras of Cubot Max 2. The smartphone has not yet officially gone on sale, so we do not have real photos and benchmark tests. This is only the first review of Cubot Max 2.
Cubot Max 2: Design
The new Cubot smartphone has very interesting and stylish design. The back panel is made of polycarbonate, while the frame of the smartphone is metal.
You can choose the color from two options: black and gradient. Both colors are matte, so they will not shine in the sun, unlike Huawei or Xiaomi smartphones. Of course, this is a disadvantage, because, most likely, you will use a protective silicone case.
The entire front panel is occupied by 6.8-inch display. This is HD IPS screen with a resolution of 1352 x 640 pixels. The display is quite bright, with good detail and rich colors. It is almost bezel-less, except a thin bezel on top and bottom.
The top bezel has an earpiece. As we wrote earlier, one of the main features of Cubot Max 2 is waterdrop notch in the upper right corner, under which the front camera is located.
The back panel is very simple. There is fingerprint reader of square shape in the center. In the corner we can see vertical dual camera and a flash between the sensors. At the bottom is Cubot logo.
As usual, hybrid slot for dual SIM or TF memory card is located on the left side, while power button and volume rocker – on the right.
At the bottom is a microUSB port for charging a smartphone and a speaker for listening to music. If you prefer to listen to music through headphones, then use 3.5 mm audio jack on the top edge.
Despite the fact that Cubot Max 2 has a large screen – almost 7-inches – the smartphone is very convenient to use. Thanks to the thin bezels around the display and rounded corners, it is even comfortable to hold it in one hand.
Dimensions are 17.31 x 8.15 x 0.90 cm, and weight is 180 grams.
Cubot Max 2: Performance
Specifications are pretty simple, which is not surprising for $199 smartphone. Cubot Max 2 runs on MediaTek 6762 processor. It also has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. As we said, a slot for microSD memory cards up to 128 GB is available.
As for the graphics processor, the smartphone is equipped with MG power VR GE 8320.
Cubot Max 2 offers good performance for everyday tasks such as watching videos on YouTube, visiting websites, social networks, instant messengers. However, if you like to play heavy games, then you should set low graphics settings, otherwise there may be strong lags.
The smartphone scores 81277 points in AnTuTu benchmark.
Cubot Max 2 runs on Android 9.0 operating system. The mobile device supports Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connections and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n.
It is not surprising that Cubot Max 2 is equipped with a large battery, because of the big display. The battery capacity is 5000mAh. This is a very good battery for a budget smartphone.
On the other hand, a large display consumes a lot of battery. We expect about one working day of battery life from Cubot Max 2 smartphone.
Cubot Max 2: Camera
The main camera of Cubot Max 2 consists of two sensors: the main sensor has a resolution of 12 megapixels, but we do know nothing about the second sensor. Most likely, it will be used for depth effect.
Probably, the smartphone will take decent pictures in good light conditions, but at night the photo quality will drop. This is the main problem of all budget mobile devices.
The front camera has 8-megapixel sensor.
Cubot Max 2: Price
We finish the first review of Cubot Max 2, and it’s time to sum up. The new smartphone stands out from its competitors with its interesting design, notch in the upper right corner and a large 6.8-inch screen.
Performance and cameras are standard for the smartphone of this price category. 5000mAh battery sounds impressive, but given the large screen size, do not expect long battery life.
Cubot Max 2 has not yet gone on sale, but you can pre-order for $199. You can find the actual price by the links below.
