Chuwi Hi9 Review: The First Gaming Tablet in 2018
Chuwi is one of the most popular Chinese manufacturer of tablets and laptops. Last year it released Chuwi Hi8 tablet with 8 inch Full HD display, Windows/Android systems, 2GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. It was really interesting device for budget price.
This year 2018 the Chinese manufacturer plans to release next generation of its tablet. It will be called Chuwi Hi9. There are already known specifications and features. Also we have some real photos, so we know how it will look like. So, let’s start our first review CHUWI Hi9.
Please note: the tablet was not officially introduced yet, so some details may be changed before the release.

Chuwi Hi9: Specifications
- 8.4-inch display with resolution of 2560×1600 pixels;
- MediaTek MT8173 quad-core processor with frequency of 1.9 GHz;
- PowerVR GX6250 graphics accelerator;
- 4GB of RAM type LPDDR3;
- 64GB of internal memory EMMC 5.1;
- microSD memory card support;
- 5000mAh battery capacity.
Chuwi Hi9: Design
Chuwi Hi9 will be similar to previous models of CHUWI products, such as Chuwi Hi8, Chuwi Vi8 and others. However, new tablet will receive thinner bezels around the display.
The body of the tablet will be made of plastic with metal frame on the sides. On the front side, there is selfie camera and LED indicator. It flashes during charging and new notifications.
At the bottom there is nothing. I would like to have Home button with fingerprint reader, but it is too expensive feature for budget tablet.
On the right side you can see power button, a volume rocker and a memory card slot. The left side is empty. On the top side there are microUSB connector and 3.5mm audio jack.
The back cover is made of soft plastic. There is rear camera in the left corner, and company logo in the center. At the bottom is speaker grille.
In general, CHUWI Hi9 tablet is quite compact and comparatively light weight, it is easy to hold in hands, for example, while playing games or browsing websites and watching videos, which cannot be said about larger 10-12 inches tablets.
Chuwi Hi9: Display
CHUWI Hi9 tablet has 8.4 inch IPS display with 2K resolution 2560×1600 pixels. It is covered by 2.5D glass, so the front panel is curved. The screen supports up to 10 simultaneous touches.
The display has a good range of brightness, but the maximum level 400 nits may be high for fans of night reading. The colors of the display are saturated, and they are practically not distorted at the corners.
Chuwi Hi9: Performance
New model CHUWI Hi9 is powered by 64-bit quad-core MediaTek MT8176 chipset with clock speed 1.9 GHz and PowerVR GX6250 graphic accelerator. Also the tablet has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The storage can be expended via microSD memory cards. The chipset shows about 76000 points in AnTuTu, 3324 points and 1592 points in single core and multi core GeekBench 4 tests, respectively.
This is good hardware for budget tablet of 2018. I think Chuwi Hi9 will be able to compete with Xiaomi Mi Pad 3.
Chuwi Hi9: Software
As you may remember, CHUWI Hi8 runs on Android and Windows system. New tablet comes with only Android operating system. However, it is the latest Android 7.0 Nougat. Perhaps, this is the first tablet from CHUWI with Android Nougat on board. Most Chuwi tablet were stuck on dual booting Android 5.0 Lollipop. I think that new device will receive update to Android 8.0 Oreo.
Chuwi Hi9: Sound
To be honest, I don’t meet budget tablets with good speaker. It is the main problem of Chinese devices. CHUWI Hi9 is not exception. However, this is enough to watch movies or video chat. If you want to listen to music on for background, ten this tablet is not good option.
The external speaker is completely without basses, but the volume is decent. In headphones the sound is a bit strange. If you listen to music, then there is an effect of some excessive bulk and with frequencies are not good.
Chuwi Hi9: Camera
Sound and cameras are the main problems of modern tablets. The Chinese manufacturer of smartphone already understood that users want quality sound and photos, so even budget phones provides good speaker and decent cameras. However, the tablet manufacturers do not move forward.
CHUWI Hi9 will come with 5MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. Of course, this is enough for Skype, but you should not make images on family holidays or in interesting travels.
Chuwi Hi9: Connections
The tablet works with wireless interfaces Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11a b/ g/n at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. It seems that 5 GHz standard is not supported.
The signal in a large room at a distance of up to 5 meters from the router is stable.
Chuwi Hi9: Battery
CHUWI Hi9 tablet has 5000mAh battery. Full charge takes about 3 hours, while battery life is about 5 hours video playing.
Chuwi Hi9: Price and release date
CHUWI Hi9 looks pretty good budget tablet. I am not sure that it will be able to complete with Xiaomi Mi Pad 3, but it will depend on official price. At the moment we don’t know how much new tablet will cost. Also, we cannot tell you when it will go on sale. But if you plan to buy compact tablet with high quality display, good hardware, latest Android system, then we recommend you to wait for new tablet from CHUWI.
Later we will add links where you can buy CHUWI Hi9 at the best price.
