Amazfit Neo First REVIEW: Very Interesting $40 Watch, But Not For All

The new Amazfit Neo smartwatch looks very similar to Amazfit Ares, but its functions and price are very different.

Retro design

Most likely, you have already noticed the first and one of the main features of Amazfit Neo – design. As you know, the fashion is cyclic, and it looks like a watch from the 90s is coming back.

The Chinese manufacturer says the new watch is equipped with four side screens. To be honest, I do not quite understand what four-sided screen means. Most likely, it means that the four corners around the screen are trimmed.

Amazfit Neo has four physical buttons: two on the right side and two on the left. On the left side there is Power On/Select button and Backlight On/Off button.

The up and down buttons are on the right side.

It looks like the display is not touch-sensitive. All controls are performed with the physical buttons.

Always On Display

The screen has a resolution of 1.2 inches. Its main feature is always on. This technology is called Always On.

You do not need to press buttons to see the time or any other information on the screen.

However, if you want to know the time in the dark, you need to press the bottom button on the left side to turn on the backlight. As you understand, it is impossible to see anything on the watch screen without backlighting.

Heart Rate Sensor 24/7

On the back side, the watch has a built-in heart rate monitor. The new Amazfit Neo watch is equipped with the same Biotracker PPG sensor as the more expensive Amazfit GTR, GTS or Ares.

You can enable continuously measurement of heart rate. If the watch detects any problems with the heart, it will inform the user about it.

As you can imagine, in 24/7 heart rate monitoring, the watch battery is drained much faster. If battery life is important to you, then it is better to turn this function off.

Water protection

I would also like to say about protection from water. Of course, this is not a unique feature of Amazfit Neo, because all Amazfit smartwatches and even more budget watches from other Chinese manufacturers, have water protection. In any case, it must be said about it.

The new Amazfit Neo is protected from water by the 5ATM standard. This standard says that watch can withstand diving to a depth of 50 meters.

No sports modes?

You know, I have not found any information about the number of sports modes in Amazfit Neo. Is it possible that the new watch has no sports modes? To me, the Amazfit Neo does not look like a sports watch.

PAI

Even if the watch does not have sports modes, it tracks daily activity such as steps, distance traveled, calories burned.

However, the most interesting feature for me is PAI.

PAI is a more advanced technology for tracking daily activity. The watch is not only count the steps you have taken, but it also measures your heart rate, and based on that, it shows you a number between 0 and 100. The closer you get to 100, the higher your physical activity is.

Of course, Amazfit Neo watch shows you notifications of new messages and calls on your connected smartphone. I think we don’t need to talk about it anymore because all the watches and fitness trackers in 2020 can do it.

28 days of battery life

But not all modern smartwatches can boast of 28 days of battery life. Moreover, in battery-saving mode, the battery life is increased to 37 days. It’s fantastic!

I think the Chinese manufacturer managed to achieve this result thanks to STN screen. By the way, I forgot to say that the display is black and white.
