Mediatek Helio G90T vs Huawei Kirin 810: Which Processor Is Better?
There are many questions about the new flagship processor Mediatek Helio G90T. One of the most popular smartphones in 2019 – Redmi Note 8 Pro – is powered by Helio G90T chipset.
In this article, we would like to compare Mediatek Helio G90T with another no less interesting Huawei Kirin 810 processor. It is very similar to Kirin 990, which is used in the latest Huawei flagship phones.
Of course, neither Kirin 810 nor Helio G90T can compete Snapdragon 730G scores, because you should pay attention to not only AnTuTu, but also to power consumption and optimization. Qualcomm processors are good in all aspects, so it makes no sense to compare all three processors. It is clear which one is better.
However, it is not clear which processor is better from these two: Kirin 810 or Helio G90T. Let’s talk about them.
Mediatek Helio G90T and Huawei Kirin 810: Specifications
First, let’s look at technical specifications of Huawei Kirin 810 processor, as well as its main features.
Kirin 810 was released in June 2019, along with Huawei Nova 5 smartphone. The processor has 7 nm process technology, as well as an advanced NPU for machine learning. It is very energy efficient, as well as fast in matters for artificial intelligence.
Kirin 810: Specifications
- Processor (CPU) – 8 cores (2 x Cortex-A76 with a frequency of 2.27 GHz + 6 x Cortex-A55 with a frequency of 1.88 GHz);
- Graphics Accelerator (GPU) – Mali-G52 MP6 850 MHz;
- Modem – 1.4 Gbit/s and 200 Mb/s (Cat.21 and Cat.18);
- Image processing – 2 integrated IVP + ISP (2 cameras – 40 + 24 megapixels or 1 camera up to 48 megapixels);
- Display Support – Full HD+, HDR10, 2340×1080;
- Artificial Intelligence – Huawei DaVinci + HiAi 2.0.
The main features of the new processor are support for interfaces such as USB 3.1, NFC, as well as Bluetooth 5.
In particular, we should say about dedicated neuroblock NPU DaVinci. It is based on the quantitative stereo arithmetic block of Rubik’s Cube. This NPU can easily compete in machine learning with AI monsters such as Snapdragon 855 and Helio P90.
Moreover, the neuroblock is able to accelerate the interaction of individual components, such as GPU, CPU and RAM.
Helio G90T: Specifications
- Processor (CPU) – 8 cores (2 x Cortex-A76 with a frequency of 2.05 GHz + 6 x Cortex-A55 with a frequency of 2.0 GHz);
- Graphic (GPU) – Mali-G76 MP6 800 MHz;
- Modem – 600/150 Mbps (Cat.12 / Cat.13);
- Image processing – 3x ISP (2 cameras – 24 + 16 megapixels or 1 camera up to 64 megapixels);
- Display Support – FullHD +, HDR10, 2520×1080;
- Artificial Intelligence – Integrated NPU.
In addition to Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB 3.1, Helio G90T also offers quite advanced technology HyperEngine Game Technology. It is able to accelerate graphics processor, so the delays in games disappear almost completely.
Mediatek Helio G90T vs Huawei Kirin 810: AnTuTu Test
Redmi Note 8 Pro is the first smartphone based on Helio G90T, and it scores more than 226.000 points in AnTuTu. Almost 86.000 points are taken by the processor (CPU). The share of the graphics accelerator is about 70.000 points.
Before the release of Mediatek Helio G90T it was reported that the processor would be a competitor to Snapdragon 855. As you can see, it is not. 12 nanometer process technology says a lot – this is clearly a non-flagship solution.
Based on Kirin 810, Honor 9x is a little better than Redmi Note 8 Pro. In the same AnTuTu test, the smartphone has 236.000 points. Also, it has better result in CPU and GPU.
However, most likely, you won’t have any problems in games and everyday use. +2 or 3 FPS in games will not play absolutely any role. Apps and games will open in about the same time.
Mediatek Helio G90T vs Huawei Kirin 810: GeekBench Test
If the results in AnTuTu test are about the same, then in GeekBench the processors are completely different. Helio G90T scores 495 in single-core test and 1583 points in multi-core test.
Kirin 810 has 590 points in single-core test and 1920 points in multi-core test. As you can see, Huawei processor is much better in multi-core test. Why? Because Helio G90T has a significantly lower clock speed for both large Cortex-A76 cores and small Cortex-A55 cores.
Mediatek Helio G90T vs Huawei Kirin 810: CPU Heating
From year to year we are told that the thinner process technology has a positive effect primarily on energy consumption, and accordingly on heating. The difference between Helio G90T and Kirin 810 is huge – 12nm versus 7nm, respectively.
Kirin 810 in Honor 9x smartphone has a maximum temperature 42 degrees Celsius;
Helio G90T in Redmi Note 8 Pro has the maximum heating 46.8 degrees Celsius.
It should be noted that both smartphones have powerful liquid cooling system. It means that Huawei has a little better cooling system.
However, there is also an advantage in heating of Helio G90T – your hands will never freeze in winter.
Mediatek Helio G90T vs Huawei Kirin 810: Throttling
Kirin 810 has lower temperature, and throttling of processor is also less. The processor loses only 2-5% of the initial performance.
Helio G90T’s results are not so good. It has strong heating, so the performance also significantly decreases. On average, the performance in stressful scenarios drops by 15-18%. You will definitely notice this in gaming performance.
Mediatek Helio G90T vs Huawei Kirin 810: Conclusion
We have a winner, and it is Kirin 810. Although Helio G90T is a good rival, it loses to Kirin 810 in terms of process technology, performance, heating and throttling, as well as power consumption.
However, the main advantage of Helio G90T is that it can be used in any smartphone, but Kirin 810 – only in Huawei and Honor devices. If you don’t want Huawei or Honor smartphone, then you won’t be able to use Kirin 810.
