Cubot X20 Pro REVIEW In-Depth: iPhone 11 Pro Max on Android!

It seems that triple camera design of iPhone 11 Pro Max is becoming popular and Chinese manufacturers are already copying it. The first clone of the new Apple flagship is Cubot X20 Pro. On the other hand, can we say that Cubot X20 Pro is a clone of iPhone 11 Pro Max, if it was released before Apple smartphone? I think so, because we knew about design of new iPhone a few months before the official presentation.

Anyway, Cubot X20 Pro has many other features, and we will talk about them in this article. This is unboxing and full review of new Cubot smartphone.

If you have not heard of this smartphone yet, then here are its main features: 6.3-inch Full HD display, Helio P60 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, triple camera and 4000mAh battery.

The price of Cubot X20 Pro is only $159. It looks like a great deal, but let’s do a full review and then decide should you buy the smartphone or not.

The package contents look like this. Here you can see paper documentation, such as Greeting card, compliance regulation, quick start guide, as well as SIM needle, USB C cable and power adapter. Unfortunately, the power adapter is only 10W.

The silicone protective case is already on smartphone.

Cubot X20 Pro: Design

Cubot X20 Pro REVIEW In-Depth: iPhone 11 Pro Max on Android!

The first thing I have noticed when I took Cubot X20 Pro smartphone into my own hands that it was quite heavy. The smartphone weight 200 grams and it really feels. I think that it is heavy because of glass back panel.

The glass back panel is another feature of this phone. I’d even say it’s a mirror, not a glass. It completely reflects everything. That’s good news for the girls. Now you don’t need a mirror, because you can use the rear panel of Cubot X20 Pro.

Even if you use silicone protective case, the back panel is still reflects. It looks very unusual and nice.

On the other hand, the rear panel gets dirty with fingerprints very fast. I wiped it every few minutes, but you can still see the fingerprints on the photos.

Another thing I should say about is the color. I have the black version of Cubot X20 Pro, but it doesn’t look back. Because of the glass-mirror back panel that reflect everything about it, the phone doesn’t have a single color. It’s a chameleon!

One of the main features of Cubot X20 Pro is main camera design. It has a square with triple camera and flashlight in the left top corner. It makes it look like iPhone 11 Pro Max. I don’t know is it good or bad. It’s up to you!

However, Cubot logo at the bottom of rear panel says that it is not iPhone.

As usual, the power button and volume rocker is on the right side, while the slot for SIM card is on the left.

USB C port and speaker are at the bottom. As you can see, Cubot X20 Pro doesn’t have 3.5 mm audio jack. Have you noticed the smartphone also doesn’t have fingerprint reader? This is very unusual for the phone in 2019. However, you can use Face unlock function.

I’m sure Cubot X20 Pro will not leave you indifferent. The smartphone has an attractive design. I cannot say that the glass back panel is something extraordinary in 2019, but in this case, it looks amazing. It’s a mirror, not a glass!

iPhone camera design is a good bonus. If you close Cubot logo, I’m sure many people will believe it’s iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Cubot X20 Pro: Display

Cubot X20 Pro REVIEW In-Depth: iPhone 11 Pro Max on Android!

I won’t dwell on screen, because it is quite standard for smartphone from price category under $200. It has a diagonal of 6.3-inches and resolution of Full HD+.

IPS panel has good viewing angles. I don’t know the brightness values, but the display is very bright. It is good visible outdoors.

I also want to say about thin bezels around the display. For comparison, I have Redmi Note 7 as my daily driver, and it has larger bezels than Cubot X20 Pro.

Cubot X20 Pro: Performance

OK, I think you are interested in performance of Cubot X20 Pro. I am going to go ahead and tell you that everything’s fine here. Performance in real life, synthetic tests and games is very good.

The smartphone is powered by Helio P60 chipset. It is also known as MediaTek MT6771M. As for the memory, Cubot X20 Pro has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That’s very good for $150 smartphone.

If you use microSD memory cards, you won’t be disappointed in this phone. X20 Pro support microSD cards up to 256GB.

You can see the full list of specifications on screenshots above.

Cubot X20 Pro: Benchmarks

If you don’t take my word for it, here are screenshots from following benchmarks: AnTuTu, GeekBench 5, AndroBench, GPS Test and Speed Test.

Cubot X20 Pro: Games

I also played games on Cubot X20 Pro, and I was surprised by performance. The smartphone runs PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9 and even Call of Duty: Mobile. It doesn’t have any problems with any of these games.

At the end of the article, you can watch a video of me running benchmarks and playing games.

Cubot X20 Pro: Software

As for the software, Cubot X20 Pro runs on Android 9.0 Pie. I think it is stock Android, because there are no pre-installed Chinese apps.

I found an interesting function in the settings menu called Digital Wellbeing. Here you can see the apps you use most often and block some of them if they distract you from the work or study.

As I already said, X20 Pro doesn’t have fingerprint scanner, so you add only Face Unlock.

Cubot X20 Pro: Camera

Cubot X20 Pro REVIEW In-Depth: iPhone 11 Pro Max on Android!

It’s time to talk about main feature of Cubot X20 Pro. As you can see, the smartphone has triple camera on the rear panel: 12MP Sony IMX486 main sensor, 20MP Sony IMX350 depth camera and 8MP ultra-wide camera.

On the front panel, there is 13MP Sony IMX214 camera.

In my opinion, the ultra-wide camera is really great idea, but in the case of Cubot X20 Pro, it is only 8MP. Unfortunately, the photos quality in ultra-wide mode is poor.

Photos in regular photo mode are excellent. The details are high, and colors are natural and saturated.

Below you can see the photos in different modes (regular, wide-angle, bokeh, selfie) and lighting conditions (day and night).

You can also see original photos on Google Drive.

Cubot X20 Pro: Battery

Cubot X20 Pro REVIEW In-Depth: iPhone 11 Pro Max on Android!

Let’s start with the good news. Cubot X20 Pro has a large 4000mAh battery. It provides long battery life – 6 hours of gaming, 9 hours of watching movies, 106 hours of listening to music, and 14 days in standby time.

The bad news is power adapter from the package. It has the output power only 10W. Why? The smartphone has USB C port, so it should support 18W fast charging technology, but the manufacturer has added only 10W power adapter in the package.

You will have to buy 18W power adapter additionally, if you don’t want to wait about 3 hours until full battery charge. Using 18W power adapter, Cubot X20 Pro charges for only 2 hours.

Cubot X20 Pro: Communication

Cubot X20 Pro is the smartphone from 2019, so it supports 4G LTE networks. However, this is budget phone, so it doesn’t support 5G bands. It’s not a problem, because most likely you don’t have 5G in your country yet.

The new Cubot smartphone has hybrid slot for dual SIM or SIM + microSD cards. It supports Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS, Baidou, Galileo, but there is no NFC. You cannot use Cubot X20 Pro for contactless payments.

As I already said, the phone has USB C port, but there is no 3.5 mm audio jack. You have to use earphones with USB C connector, or wireless Bluetooth headphones.

Conclusion

Cubot X20 Pro REVIEW In-Depth: iPhone 11 Pro Max on Android!

OK, I think we can finish the review of Cubot X20 Pro. Now we know all the pros and cons of this smartphone. In fact, I see only two drawbacks in Cubot X20 Pro. The first one is ultra-wide camera. The photos in wide-angle mode are very poor quality, especially compared to high-quality images in regular photo mode.

The second disadvantage for me is 10W power adapter. I think the manufacturer should forget about 10W chargers for smartphones with USB C ports. What is the point of USB C port with 10W charger? USB C port provides fast charging support, but you have to buy the power adapter additionally. It is not good.

As you can see, I was looking for cons as best I could. Luckily, I only found these two.

Cubot X20 Pro is very good smartphone for $150. It has premium-looking design with glass back panel and waterdrop notch.

iPhone style camera is more of a good thing than a bad thing. I don’t like when the Chinese manufacturers copy Apple design, but in this case, it looks very nice. In addition, Cubot X20 Pro was released before iPhone 11 Pro Max. It means that Apple copied the design of X20 Pro. Ha-ha-ha-ha, joke.

Compared to my daily driver phone – Redmi Note 7, the new smartphone from Cubot has smaller bezels around the display. It is noticeable.

The performance of Cubot X20 Pro is very good. I have played the most demanding Android games, such as PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty: Mobile, the smartphone wasn’t laggy at all.

The camera is great for $150, except wide-angle mode. The images are really wide, but the quality is poor. I have already talked about this.

So, if you don’t expect high-quality wide-angle photos from Cubot X20 Pro, then this smartphone is good for you. You can even say it is iPhone 11 Pro Max! Just remember to hide Cubot logo.
