Huawei P20 Pro (Plus) Quick Review: Huawei goes crazy with $1100 price tag!

Very soon the Chinese manufacturer Huawei will show its best smartphone in 2018. We already told you about Huawei P20 Lite, which, by the way, is already sold. However, there was no information about Huawei P20 or even Pro version.

So, now we can say that new smartphone is ready to be released. We know all important specifications, photos and features of new device. Moreover, the price of Huawei P20 Pro is already known.

However, we want to warn you that following article has many subjective thoughts, so you should not take everything seriously, but only read our opinion and draw your conclusions.

By the way, Xiaomi plans to release its next flagship Mi Mix 2S on March 27. The same day, Apple will hold its developer event, and perhaps iPhone SE 2 will be announced. We are waiting for Huawei P20 Pro at the end of March or beginning of April 2018. As you can see, we have very interesting next week.

Huawei P20 Pro (Plus) Review

Some days ago the popular publications about technologies Roland Kwandt shared the press-renders of upcoming smartphones Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Also it named their European prices.

As you can see, the design cannot be called unique, while the price tag is impressive. New phones will have a notch and vertical three cameras.

Huawei P20 Pro (Plus): Design

We knew about Huawei P20 and P20 Pro for a long time, but today there is no doubt that a notch, bezel-less design,  triple camera and so on are true.  What can we see from the front? The smartphone has relatively thin bezels, like iPhone X, and quite big area at the bottom with Home button and fingerprint reader under it.

The front camera and sensors are located in the notch. Is it beautiful? I am not sure. Is it unique? Not at all! We understand that it is very difficult to combine full-screen design and cameras/sensors/speakers, without the notch. However, Samsung found the way not to copy Apple, and offers its unique design.  Huawei is one of the world leaders of the mobile market, so it could try.

The back panel is made of glass panel. Of course, its main feature if triple vertical cameras. Again, it looks similar iPhone X. We think that it is a big shame for Huawei.

Huawei P20 Pro (Plus): Performance

In fact, today most flagships are similar to each other, if we talk about hardware. Most phones are powered by Snapdragon or Mediatek. However, Samsung develops its own chipset, just like Huawei. New smartphone Huawei P20 Pro will have HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset. It has similar performance to Snapdragon 835, but it is much inferior to it in terms of graphics.

Huawei P20 Pro (Plus): Memory

We expect that Huawei P20 will have 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. As for the Pro version, it will be even more powerful, and its price will be higher. We think it is not very good.

Huawei P20 Pro (Plus): Camera

The situation with cameras is clear. We know what kind of sensors will use Huawei P20 Pro. We don’t know exactly how three cameras will work, but that’s what we were told: the main sensor will receive 12MP (RGB) resolution, the additional 16MP sensor will be monochrome, while the third sensor will receive resolution of 15 MP and a telephoto lens. The smartphone will make more believable portrait photos, as well as optical zoom. Also it will be able to shoot photos in black and white.

The front camera will have 24-megapixels, and most likely a flashlight.

Huawei P20 Pro (Plus): Display

According to sources, the smartphone will be equipped with 6.1-inch display, OLED panel and resolution of 2280×1080 pixels with 19:9 aspect ratio. It is interesting that basic model Huawei P20 will get IPS panel, while OLED will be a privilege exclusively Pro version.

And, finally, we need to talk about battery capacity. The smartphone will receive 4000 mAh battery. Coupled with a fairly energy-efficient processor and OLED display it will give at least two days of active use.

Also, Huawei P20 Pro will support fast charging technology Huawei Super Charge 3.0. In addition, since new smartphone will have glass body, it will also receive wireless charging technology.

Huawei P20 Pro: Release date and price

Right now you can buy flagship Chinese phones for about $500, for example, OnePlus 5T. However, Huawei new phone will cost more than twice as expensive. Sometimes Huawei’s pricing policy is complete misunderstanding. Especially Huawei looks stupid against competitors, when its flagships in a limited series are more expensive than the top-end devices from Apple or Samsung.

The presentation of Huawei P20 Pro will be held in China on March 27. The minimum price Huawei P20 Pro will be as much as 900 euros, or about $1100 .
