Asus ZenFone 5 (2018) Review: Worthy Competitor to iPhone X? Price, release date, specs
Asus is a leader manufacturer of hardware for desktop devices (PCs, monoblocks, etc.), but also it produces its own smartphones. However, the company haven’t released any interesting phones yet. Why? First, because Asus uses very difficult names for its products. Secondly, for the past 2017 the company didn’t release any flagship phones, and made a bet on budget and mid-range devices using Snapdragon 430/625 processors. The only interesting model of the past year is Asus ZenFone 4 ZE554KL on Snapdragon 630 (basic model) and Snapdragon 660 (pro model).
So, Asus decided to release real flagship in 2018. The other day we received an image with AnTuTu benchmark. It provides some information about new smartphones. Also there is very interesting device named Asus Z01RD. Most likely, it is new smartphone Asus ZenFone 5. Moreover, it looks like a clone of iPhone X.
New smartphone from Asus will have flagship chipset Snapdagon 845. Are you interested? Let’s find out its other features and specs.
Asus ZenFone 5: Design
As we have already said, the main problem of iPhone X was notch above the dispaly. However, many manufacturers think that it is a feature, so they copy design of iPhone X. Asus ZenFone 5 is one of these phones, and its renders prove it.
Asus ZenFone 5: Display
New Asus phone will be equipped with large display from 5.8 to 6 inches with resolution of Full HD+ (2246×1080 pixels). Considering the resolution of display, you can calculat the aspect ratio, which is 18.7:9. It gives 100% confidence that Asus ZenFone 5 will have a notch. The earlier rumors were originally true.
Asus ZenFone 5: Hardware
As for the hardware, it is classic for flagship device of 2018. ZenFone 5 will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor (includes 4 Kryo 385 Gold cores and 4 Kryo 385 Silver cores, Adreno 630 graphics), at least 6 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory with microSD support.
Interestingly, ZTE Nubia Z19, which recently appeared in AnTuTu benchmark, has a similar amount of memory. As for operating system of Asus ZenFone 5, it will run of latest Android 8.0 Oreo with ZenUI user interface on top.
Asus ZenFone 5: Performance
Let’s talk about AnTuTu. According to benchmark, Asus ZenFone 5 will score about 238 000 points. This is much lower than some other flagships showed with the same chipset. For example, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, which will be presented at MWC 2018, demonstrated about 270 000 points. Also we should note about Samsung Galaxy S9 on Snapdragon 845 chip that gives a little more than 265 000 points. Finally, Nubia Z19 beats all existing records of synthetic tests, with more than 271 000 points.
We don’t know what is the reason for such a low result in Asus ZenFone 5. We can assume that the smartphone has bad software optimization and some problems with stability.
