Review Vernee M5: Budget Phone with 4GB RAM and stock Android 7.0
New budget smartphone Vernee M5 not like the previous gadgets from the young Chinese brand. It does not have a big battery or a powerful hardware, but this device is the most balanced product for the money.
Among all features of new smartphone the company especially notes an optimizing system software. The firmware of new smartphone is based on stock Android 7.0 Nougat without any add-ons.

Design
Vernee M5 looks live very classic. In principle, the smartphone can be described as “another thin metal smartphone from China”, but among other devices of its price category, it almost has not competitors. As a rule, most budget smartphones have thicker bodies.
The number of mechanical buttons in Vernee M5 is reduced to a minimum: only volume control buttons and Power on the right side. The frames to the left and right of the screen are present, however they are almost invisible due to 2.5D-effect of the protective glass.
Despite the slim body, the manufacturer of M5 phone did not abandon the 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones and headsets. It is located on the left upper edge. On the bottom there is micro-USB ports and the holes of the main speaker and microphone. The SIM tray is located at the top left side.
On the back of the metal cover Vernee M5 everything is standard: the main camera module in the middle, under it is the fingerprint scanner, to the left – a single LED flash. Plastic inserts for antennas are very thin and stretched horizontally.
Performance
The Chinese new smartphone is based on a fairly common processor among low-cost phones – MediaTek MT6750. For a budget device, it has good performance, thanks to the eight cores of ARM Cortex A53.
Another feature of MT6750 CPU is an integrated modem with supporting 4G LTE Category 6 networks (download speed up to 300 Mbps).
Vernee M5 supports dual SIM-card in nano-SIM format, however the second slot is a hybrid one.
New smartphone provices as much as 64GB of internal memory. 4GB of RAM is the limit for the hardware base of M5.
Screen
The smartphone screen is based on IPS technology and has a diagonal of 5.2 inches with HD Ready resolution of 720 × 1280 pixels. In principle, you could have Full HD, but Vernee M5 will cost a bit more money. Moreover, few people will feel the difference at this size.
Cameras
If you believe the representatives of Vernee company, then new smartphone should take photos no worse than the more expensive Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017). In terms of technical specifications it is very close to Vernee M5. The resolution of the main camera is 13-megapixel, and front camera of 8MP.
Demonstration photos taken on Vernee M5 look really nice, but we need practical tests. In addition, the smartphone has a single and clearly not the best flash of the main camera, while competitors use double tone flashes.
Battery
Despite the thin 6.9 mm body, new smartphone has good battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh. Also it supports fast charging PumpExpress 2.0. For comparison, the flagship OnePlus 5 with its much more impressive dimensions, received a battery of similar capacity.
The manufacturer promises 240 hours of standby time and 13 hours of continuous video playback.
At the same time, Vernee M5 battery life will be much higher. First, due to weaker processor. Secondly, due to smart optimization of system software Android 7.0 Nougat, which does not consume battery once again.
Vernee M5 Disadvantages
- Hybrid tray for microSD memory card (although with 64GB of internal memory it is not so scary).
- At the bottom of the display there is a significant panel, where the touch control buttons could well be placed, but the manufacturer preferred to make them onscreen. As a result, control keys occupy considerable space of 5.2-inch screen.
- A single not very powerful flash of the main camera.
