Review Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus: price, specifications and design
Vivo is one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in China. Vivo entered the top five world leaders in smartphone sales for the first quarter of 2017. Being already widely distributed in its native land and in India close to China, Vivo is looking for new markets.
In early July this year, Vivo introduced two new smartphones – Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus. We have first review of new smartphone, and look at features that they offers.
Vivo smartphones – brief classification
Vivo brand is not yet very well known all over the world, so we should briefly talk about the various classes of smartphones offered by Vivo. Vivo smartphones are divided into 3 classes: premium classes, which are divided into: X – super-thin; Xplay – with a more powerful hardware, high resolution and large displays; As well as Xshot – so-called “camera phones” that have a built-in digital photo / video camera.
Budget class of smartphones has prefixes Y, as well as the middle segment with prefix V. Vivo Xplay 3S was the first to have a QHD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and a diagonal of 6 inches; Vivo X5 pro is the first smartphone with an iris scanner. Certainly, this brand is worthy of our attention, so let’s talk about new smartphones: Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus. As you can see by names, they belong to the premium class of Vivo smartphones.
Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus design
According to the manufacturer, Vivo X9S and X9S Plus uses a completely different design from previous versions. But as you can see from photos, devices are not much different from the previous versions of Vivo, as well as something similar to all the famous American brand. The main feature of updated design, wand it is the main feature of Vivo X models – is their thickness.
Vivo X9S has a thickness of 6.99mm, and Vivo X9S Plus has a thickness of 7.25 mm. As for color design, both smartphones are presented in three colors: golden, black and “pink gold”. Below you can see detailed specification list of Vivo X9S and X9S Plus.

Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Performance
In addition to minor differences in size, it is worth mentioning the various chipsets of two “brothers”. Surprisingly, the newer version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 MSM 8976 Pro used in Vivo X9S Plus, loses its predecessor in the Antutu rating (73000 vs. 79636). But we should say that these values are not perfectly accurate, and do not indicate a real performance.
However, in any case, the power of the chipsets is the same, so new Vivo smartphones will be enough to comfortably launch a wide variety of applications – from the browser to modern games.
Also, it should be mentioned that the new smartphones received a slightly increased battery size: Vivo X9 and Vivo X9 Plus had 3050 mAh and 4000 mAh, and the new Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus – 3320 mAh and 4015 mAh, respectively. It can not be said that this is a much more, but those who actively use the smartphone during the day will be glad for upgrade.
Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus camera
The main feature of new smartphones is dual front camera. Both devices Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus are equipped with two sensors on front panel: 20 MP and 5 MP.
The pixel size is, of course, small, only 1 micron (when normal cameras now have 1.2-1.4 microns), but the quality of photos is leveled by a wide aperture f/2.0 and front flash. An additional front sensor with 5MP resolution allows to selfies with a bokeh effect.
The main camera is also good. According to specifications (the sensor size is 1/2.8″, the resolution is 16 MP), we are dealing either with IMX298 sensor, quite popular, but slightly outdated (used in Vivo Xplay 5, OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi5), or, most likely, its newer revision IMX398 that used in new OPPO flagship. The manufacturer announces the availability of a separate DSP chip in both models, which serves to optimize the image and supports RAW format.
Vivo X9S and Vivo X9S Plus price and release date
Considering the good performance, good cameras and other features of Vivo X9s and X9s Plus, the smartphones should have an adequate price. At the moment, the starting price is $400 for Vivo X9S and $441 for Vivo X9S Plus. Since July 14, it is already possible to pre-order Vivo X9S.
